I probably could have just relied on the accuracy of the cross members to make sure the bottom of the tower section would be perpendicular to an imaginary line running down the center of the tower, but it didn't take much geometry to make sure so I did it anyway.  Here I find the imaginary center line of the tower section.




Here I make sure the base is perpendicular to the center line and set the legs tips to the proper face width, which in this case is an even 48 inches.




At this point the lower section (section #1) has been assembled and the next section has been started.




The tower in two sections, 30ft and 40ft, all assembled and painted with the step bolts installed.  I plan to insert the mast (21 feet of 2 inch diameter, 0.25 inch wall chrome-moly steel) into the top section ahead of time ... it's a really heavy beast that I'd rather not have to wrestle up the tower later.
