The instructions for the tower say to assemble it on a flat surface.  There isn't any such spot 70 feet long within a half mile of my QTH, so I decided to assemble the tower in two sections ... the upper one 40 feet long and the lower one 30 feet long.  Even so, I had to use pallets and shims to get everything straight.

The upper section (section #7) came assembled from the manufacturer with the rotor plate, intermediate mast plate (for support when the rotor is removed), and top thrust bearing plate already installed so it made a good starting point for the rest of the assembly.

Since I was assembling the tower single-handed (i.e., by myself ... I thankfully still have both of my hands), I had to improvise some of the steps that two people would normally do.  Adding the two lower legs was straightforward since they could be supported by the pallet, but the upper leg was a bit trickier.  I pre-attached a couple of the splice plates to one end ...

... attached two of the cross braces ...

... rested the end of the leg with the splices on the bottom of section #7, raised the leg into position, and attached the two cross braces.  It was actually pretty easy.
